Open Up online by One Eighty 2020

Open Up is a free local peer support program developed by One Eighty to fill a gap we identified in the mental health care sector.

We wanted to see a time and space created for young people to practice skills of sharing, listening, connecting with others, and asking for help. Being young people ourselves, we knew that our friends wouldn’t want this in a clinical setting, so we created a more casual and accessible (but still safe) setting that we knew young people would feel comfortable using.

Open Up is a discussion space, where participants can chat with other young people asking the same questions. Each session provides an opportunity for participants to connect with other young people in their area and share their experiences.

Although we should all be trying to practice social distancing, it does not mean that we need to be socially isolated. So, the One Eighty team has accepted the challenge to move our Open Up sessions online.

Please note that Open Up sessions are for 18-29 year olds only.

“Open Up helped me talk out loud about things I’ve needed to get off my chest for a while now. Open Up has helped me feel more comfortable speaking about how I feel and made me realise I’m not alone on this journey.” – Emma, 25
